12/17
today we examined the trail of tears, why this happened, and why its significant, because besides form a terrible inhuman act, it was also incredibly unconstitutional, and Jackson did it anyway, which says a lot about how our system of checks and balances deals with corruption, or to put it better, how it doesn't.

Also, in an unrelated subject, i just figured out where to view all of the unapproved comments, and to my fear i realized that you actually do read my blog. haha

hardly worth blogging today, because the assembly screwed up our schedule, but instead of taking the test (wait, no, i mean quest) we only had about 10 to 20 minutes of class time, so we went to the computer lab and we worked on our projects. we made some progress with our group and i feel confident about it. the quest will be on thirs (we drop tomorrow)

10/21
Today, much to my excitement, and thankfulness, the kind and merciful Mr. Boyle gave us the weekend to do our voice threads and story board (thank you thank you thank you thank you)and we took some notes. all this time we were with our budyy for that A/B work sheet from last night, and we spent some time going over that. and the four groups (people, congress, state, electoral) and their respective benefits and downfalls. we also learned about the short answer questions we would have to answer on the quest (quiz-test, i like to call them tuizes)so today was pretty important for history.

10/14
today we split up into 3 groups (a,b,c) and looked at historical documents at around the time of the constitution. in my group the actually document was just a conversation between a group of people, (it may have been that way for every group, i dont know) so we each picked a person and read as that person. Also, i'm curious if you actually ever read our blogs, so if you read this, can you just leave a comment (one words fine), thanks. -drew

The Preamble
For homework tonight, i have to memorize the 0preamble, which is the first section of the constitution. Luckily, (thank you 5th grade and school house rock) i already know most of it. "we the people, in order to form a morte purfect nation, establish justice and ensure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general wellfair, ...(cant remember)... do-ordained and establish this consitution of america" almost...
Deceifering and discussing the historical documents
Over the weekend we had to read and translate (old English-modern English)and write a paragraph about them, then using the power of google docs, we combined them and put them all on one paper. then yesterday and today we had to present them. it was all pretty fun, minus reading the old english, which might have well been chinese.

Test
we had the test today, and i think i did pretty good, i had to rush the final paragraph of my essay, because time ran out and i didnt want to stay after school just to finish 3 minutes of work. i also forgot some of the declaration, but the first part, and some of the second part i am very confident in. _drew

10/4 (i've decided that dated titles are less confusing and more orginized)
today, we go another packet that we needed to fill in the questions after we read it ...i'm not worried, i did most it in class. also, we discussed more important battles, as well as, for the first time, what happened after we declared independence, and how it still wasn't over, because we had to come to terms with what should happen next. -Drew

common sense
despite the title, common sense required more than little thought and was full of large and unnecessary vocabulary.Aside from reading , we also got new groups and looked at another power point today. i dont mind note taking, but i always prefer the hands on tactic of learning. thats all, drew

today in class
Today in class, we used Google Earth to look at Lexington and concord. while i dislike much of the use of technology in this class, I'm a sucker for Google Earth, and found that class very interesting. plus, i realized much of what i knew about that battle was a twisted American version of the truth, which is always interesting to find out. P.S. please no more poetry, i loath it.
Poem
A very long time ago
At around 10:30 or so,
Revere and Dawes waited to see
where the British might be
When the lanterns were lit,
the riders could no longer sit
As they ran they gave a great shout
"the regulars are out!"
Latter on, to lexington they got
waiting for them was Prescott
As they moved onward,
they were stopped by a British guard
Prescott and Dawes got away,
but Paul was there to stay
but then Dawes fell of his horse
which made thing even worse
Alone and afraid only Prescott lasted
but he reached the patriots and their guns blasted
and that is how the midnight ride really occored
what most know is just what's rumored

50 Words...count 'em
When the British decided to keep the tax on tea after they repealed all the other taxes, the colonists pushed it farther than ever before, and I think this is where war became inevitable. While before, the Americans could have made compromises with Brittan before, it was now too late. ~~~That's 50 word.

Yesterday and today
So yesterday we presented our giant cutout guys and it was pretty cool. unfortunately, while i had my guy, i didn't have my 12 facts, so i was the only person who didn't present, which kinda stunk, so i had them today, but i didn't get to present, cause we were listening to the voice notes from the group project we did awhile ago. Anyway, i have to summarize each event, so i think ill get started:
The Royal Proclamation
Made in 1763, it was a law that prohibited the settlement of colonists in the area beyond the Appalachian Mountains. The colonists really didn't like this,so many crossed the mountains themselves, disregarding the law.
The Stamp Act
The British Parliament placed a tax on British America saying that all printed materials must be produced on stamp paper. The colonists were not very mad about the tax, seeing as taxes had always been heavy, what bothered them was that they didn't get representation in parliament. So they decided they wouldn't pay the taxes.
Boston Massacre
In Boston, 60 colonists threw snowballs at a british guard. In return, the british guard disregarded orders, firing on the colonists, calling in backup. In the end, 11 were dead, and many wounded.
Boston Tea Party
On December 6th, 1773 a group of colonists, pretending to be Indians, boarded a ship of British tea, and destroyed the tea by throwing it all into Boston Harbor. They did this to protest the high taxes on tea. Also in protest, they drank smuggled dutch tea and grew their own.
The Intolerable Acts
These were a set of laws that were passed in 1774 by the british parliament. These laws targeted and attacked the rebellious acts such as the Boston tea party, and to stop groups such as the sons of liberty. It required that attacks like the tea party be paid for, and unauthorized groups be disbanded.
The First Continental Congress
The First Continental Congress was a meeting of delegates from the colonies. While it had no technical power in parliament (as parliament constantly reminded them), however, they still debated and decided how things should be with the relation between England and North America. Many in the The First Continental Congress went on to be key figures in the revolution.
If you've actually read this far, you've probably noticed that I'm missing like two blog posts. i could say that i don't always have internet access, but that would be a lie. i could say i don't always have much time at home for homework, but that would also be a lie. the real answer is that i forgot. i will try to avoid this in the future because i think it will show in my grade.

Packets and Blogs
Today in history, we did a packet in our group, and the fact that we will have to do blog posts every day we have class. I loath the idea of homework every night and think there are better ways of getting feed back from your class. Like... actually talking to them. Anyway, two projects to do over the weekend, which wont be fun, but on the bright side, tomorrows Friday. :)
I meant to publish this last night, but left it open on the new post tab instead. so here it is now...

Goals and Such
By now, in my sophomore year, I've reached the point where the goal making is an expected and well practiced part of new classes and teachers. However, despite the repetitiveness of it all, goal can be a helpful and powerful tool that will motivate me all year long, and if i don't reach them, push me harder next year. I'm not really sure weather these goals are supposed to be for this class, or for the year in general, so I'll try to stick to basics that can apply to both.
(1)Learn A LOT. Obviously, that why I'm here, and thus, i will always try to push my self to memorize, understand, and retain as much useful information as possible. This has always been a big problem, not because of lack of motivation or interest, but because i have a terrible memory. This year I intend to combat that more than in years past.
(2)Keep things STRESS FREE. I get very easily stressed out, which can really make school and life in general really, really bad. This makes me less likely to do work, which makes me even more stressed, and i spiral down into anger and missed work. This year I want to never give my self the chance to start this deadly circle, by doing work when i get home, as apposed to late at night the night before it's due (like I'm doing right now...). This will have a positive effect on grade, social life, and even health, avoiding the sleep deprivation.
(3)My third and final goal is TO HAVE FUN. The words "Fun" and "history" are rarely used in the same sentence by a teenager, but last year Mr. Richard proved it was more than possible. This year, the majority of my teachers appear to be willing to let us enjoy the year as long as the work gets done, which means as long as I work hard, i can have the grades I want (and my parents want) and still have friends by the end of the year.
